Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Can you change the name of your island?

Animal Crossing has always been about building a village, with the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons changing things up a bit by having you make your own island getaway. It's still the same as a village on the surface, including naming the island at the start of the game. You might have liked the name you chose back then, but later on, you were really not a fan of it and you want to change, which makes you wonder if you can change the name of your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Can you change the name of your island?

After making your way to your new island and being introduced to Tom Nook, you're tasked with helping a few new villagers find a home on the island. After that, everyone gathers and finally you will have the opportunity to choose the name of the island which will be voted on with the group.

The name you choose will automatically be the one chosen, because the other villagers don't come up with very good answers. As with choosing your villager's name, the island name will be seen by others online, so it cannot be offensive or contain personal information.

Choosing a name for your entire island can be difficult for many people, leaving some with remorse later after finding a better name than they chose. However, the bad news is that there is no way to rename your island immediately after choosing it. This is a final decision that will be set in stone for the rest of your game.

As with many other areas of this game, you can technically reset the island and the game if you wish and start over, but doing so will erase everything you've done so far. It's not something we recommend, but if you absolutely feel the need to change the name of your island, it's your only option.
