Animal Crossing: New Horizons - How to Catch a Giant Water Bug

Among the new fish and bugs arriving this month in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), there's one creature that seems to straddle the line between the two categories. The giant water bug has just started showing up for players, and it might cause a bit of confusion. This creature appears in strange places and requires unique capture strategies to capture one and bring them into the Blathers Museum. Here's how to catch a giant aquatic bug in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to Catch a Giant Water Bug

The giant water bug will only appear on the ponds between 19 p.m. and 8 a.m. Unlike most of the other bugs in New Horizons, it actually spawns in water, rather than hovering overhead like a butterfly or the like. Seeing it for the first time will surely cause confusion. Is it a fish or an insect? Should I use my fishing rod or my net? As the name suggests, it's the latter and so you need to focus on using your net. But with her appearing in the water, sometimes far from shore, you might even be wondering how to catch her in the first place.

The answer is that it might require patience. You should see the Giant Water Bug spawn on ponds all around your island, though pond-centric Mystery Islands are a great place to find one. Once you see it, simply equip your net and try to get as close as possible. Once he swims close to the shore, move away and try to capture him in the net. If you do, you'll have a new Bell 2000 bug on your hands. But of course you're going to give first… right?
