If the Legend of Zelda franchise taught us anything, it would be that cutting greenery in a game always has its benefits, which is also the case in Bravely default 2. Early on you are warned that by clicking “Y” on your controller you can ambush enemies and cut grass in the Overworld. This way you can find items for side quests or collect a random amount of pg, the in-game currency. But what about the trees you can find around you, can you cut them down too? In fact, yes you can.
How to cut down trees in Bravely Default 2
You may have hit paths blocked by trees before, like the one in the Hydrangea Hills. This location is north of Halcyonia, the first town in the game. At first, there doesn't seem to be a way to pass this tree to claim the treasure chest visible on the other side. This is where chopping down trees comes in handy, as you can easily knock this one down and claim the loot inside that chest.
To be able to do this, you must first complete Chapter 1. After defeating the last boss of the specific chapter, you begin the journey to your next destination, heading north from the desert town of Savalon. You could get there before, but the bridge connecting the next area was broken. It always does, but this time an old pal is there, waiting. That would be Truff, the charming, now-human-talking-monster, ready to give you a quest to complete. The quest itself is very simple, as you only have to go back to Savalon and talk to some NPCs. Then return to Truff and after a certain conversation and event you gain the ability to chop down trees!
Plus, you can now travel to Wiswald, the hometown of Elvis, which just happens to be the next place you'll visit. If you want, before moving on to the next location, you can go back to Hydrangea Hills, cut down that annoying tree and open the hidden chest. Enjoy.
Bravely default 2 is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch.
