Final Fantasy XIV's Red Mage is one of the most versatile jobs in the game. As one of the few hybrid classes to make an appearance, the Red Mage can not only deal massive amounts of magic damage, but it can also provide additional healing, combat boosts, and even damage boost to all party members. With the class becoming even more dynamic in the next version of Endwalker, now is the perfect time to unlock and level up this master of white and dark magic. How to Unlock Red Mage in FFXIV
To unlock Red Mage in FFXIV, you'll need to complete the "Taking the Red" quest that starts in Ul'dah - Steps Of Thal (x:14.2, y:11.8). Upon completion, you'll earn the Red Mage's Soul Crystal as well as his starting weapon and armor. There are a few additional requirements for this quest to even appear - see below for details!
Complete the Red Quest Requirements
While the quest is pretty straightforward to do once you get it, the requirements are slightly more vague. For the quest to appear, you must:
- Own the Stormblood expansion (if you are currently on a free trial from September 2022, you will not be able to get this job).
- Reach level 50 on any Disciple of War or Magic.
- Gain access to Ul'Dah (if you started in another city, this shouldn't be a big deal as long as you continued through the main story to reach level 50. If you reached a power level, you will need to unlock this area to start the job quest).
And that's all! Once you've unlocked the job, be sure to complete the follow-up quest The Crimson Duelist for a quick experience boost and a little more understanding of your new job.
