Fortnite: Save the World Slows 'New Content Development', Moves to Seasonal Structure with Ventures
Fortnite: Save the World hasn't felt like a typical Early Access game for a long time, but now it's official: Epic Games is removing the somewhat silly Early Access label from the premium game and slowing down its pipeline of new content. "The Early Access legacy tag will also be removed from Battle Royale and Creative game modes, a holdover from our original Save the World launch," Epic said today.
To be clear, the free-to-play battle royale game – Fortnite as the majority of gamers know it – will continue uninterrupted. It's business as usual. On the other hand, Fortnite: Save the World - 2022's co-op PvE campaign - is moving to a seasonal rotation for existing content with "a handful of new quests and new heroes at a slower pace". Surprisingly, this will “remain a premium experience”.
In 2022, Epic hopes to give Fortnite: Save the World some longer legs with Ventures. They are billed as seasonal excursions with "continuous progression", "levels to climb" and "unique modifiers to battle".
"By overcoming challenges in Ventures, you'll earn seasonal experience that will impact the difficulty level you encounter, the weapons you find, and the seasonal rewards you earn," the developer said in a blog post. “Achieving higher seasonal Ventures levels unlocks compressor materials that can level up items in your main collection – beyond their current cap. »
Further, Fortnite: Save the World "will no longer be able to support any future Fortnite Battle Royale cosmetic purchases", which tells you everything you need to know about the future of the game and the priorities of Epic. For what it's worth, Save the World has been supported for way longer than I expected.
As for the game losing its longtime early access sticker, it's like those folks - you know the kind - who refuse to peel the dust/fingerprint covers off their brand new electronics. Tear it.
