Although we don't quite get a Steep 2, Republic of Riders it will be fine. It basically preserves the game's formula and adds more to its activities and personality. Of course, since this is a Ubisoft game, the question always arises if the game should always have an online connection. We will answer it here.
Should Riders Republic always be online?
The short answer is no, the game does not need to be played with an internet connection all the time. However, there are some major constraints if you play without an internet connection.
First, when you tap on the Riders Republic title screen and hit your confirm button to continue, the game will immediately start searching for an internet connection. If your connection is successful and everything goes well on the Ubisoft servers, you have carte blanche over everything in the game. You will have access to the career and interactions with other players.
What can you do without an internet connection?
Basically the only thing you can do is play Zen mode. This is a free-roaming single-player mode where you can travel to all parts of the map. You cannot participate in any events, find relics, participate in obstacle courses or earn stars. The mode basically nullifies all progress to you. Trophies and achievements cannot be earned here either.
If you actually want to play any of the activities in the game, you must have an internet connection and select the New Game/Continue option from the main menu.
The best choice is to just play the game while connected to the internet. You don't have to join any lobbies or anything fancy. The way the game is designed makes sense for it to be online only. You are among thousands of others who want to be the next great sports champion.
The only downside to needing an internet connection to play the majority of the game is that if Ubisoft's servers go down or your internet connection is unstable, your game is virtually unplayable.
