Diamonds are one of the most valuable resources you can get in Minecraft. Not only do they allow you to craft powerful weapons and gear, but they will allow you to create special items like the Enchantment Table to make your character stronger through enchantments. That said, finding diamonds in Minecraft isn't easy, but there are some things you can do and places you can search to help you get lucky and find diamonds sooner rather than later.

The best way to find diamonds is to mine them. When you go on a diamond hunting expedition, it's probably wise to bring the right gear so you can go home with your prize.

Tools you will need to find diamonds

  • Stone pickaxe ax (minimum)
  • Torches
  • Food
  • Build table (optional)

Diamond hunting in cave systems

There are several ways to fetch diamonds in Minecraft. You can either search for cave systems in your world. Or, you can just dig. Either way, you're going to want to drop your head down into the world deep within the Y axis.

The deeper you go, the better. The further along the Y axis of the world you go, the more likely you are to find diamonds. We have found that anywhere between 5 and 10 on the Y axis will give you your best chance of finding them diamonds.

Once you see the light blue flakes in the block, it's time to mine. Remove that stone or better pickaxe and collect the cluster of diamonds. Where there is one block there is usually more, look for more diamonds in a single diamond block.

Loot the diamonds

There are many places where you can loot diamonds in Minecraft without ever having to mine a single block. To do this, you will need to find chests that could potentially contain diamonds.

  • Stronghold Chests
  • Village Chests
  • Jungle Chests
  • Stronghold Chests
  • Temple Chests
  • Minecart Chests
  • Buried chests
  • and more
