The Caves and Cliffs update is finally here, and among all the things that have been added to the game, today we take a look at where to find Axolotls. These cute aquatic creatures have unique spawning conditions compared to other aquatic monsters in the game, so we'll go over what they are, as well as how to breed and maintain more Axolotls once you've found some.
Where to find axolotls
Axolotls can only spawn in groundwater, especially below sea level which is at Y=63, and in total darkness. Specifically, it checks to see if water is under the blocks, which means that if it's possible to find them naturally in the ocean, it's likely because there's an opening to an underwater cave. marina nearby. Underwater caves are where you'll be most likely to find them as all of their spawning conditions will be fulfilled naturally. They come in five different colors, which are each randomly selected each time they appear. Once you find Axolotls, you can pick them up from a bucket of water to move them elsewhere.
Get more axolotls
Once you have Axolotls at your disposal, you can easily breed more. They don't need to be in water to breed, but it's best to put them in some to ensure the baby Axolotl will survive. Once the two candidates are ready, right click on each of them with a bucket of tropical fish and soon you will have a baby Axolotl. If you also transported the Axolotl in buckets, you also don't have to worry about them disappearing, as picking up an aquatic creature with a bucket and then putting it back down will prevent that from happening.
