An interesting mechanic that made its way into the Diamond and Pearl remakes is the use of honey in some interactive trees. This allowed certain Pokémon to be drawn in, allowing the trainer to climb up the tree and battle them. It's very complementary to the berry system in that you watch the spots you're dabbing honey on and revisit them hours later.
