When Pokémon Go released in 2022, one of the biggest questions back then was how to get the three Eeveelutions that people love. Since that time, we've seen four additional Eeveelutions added to the game from their respective generations. That left us with just one more Eeveelution to go with the sixth generation of Sylveon, but now they've been added to the game. As always, there are two ways to get this Eeveelution and this guide will tell you exactly how you can get Sylveon in Pokémon GO.
How to Evolve Eevee into Sylveon
Eeveelutions have always been very unique in Pokémon GO, as they differ in how they evolve from Eevee. The original trio of Flareon, Vaporeon, and Jolteon was random. Espeon and Umbreon required you to walk with an Eevee as a buddy for a specific amount of time and then evolve into a certain type of day. Glaceon and Leafeon then needed special decoy modules to be active to evolve. That left us with another one to go with the Kalos region Fairy Sylveon type, which will begin to be available from Tuesday, May 25 at 10 a.m. local time.
As with every Eeveelution, there are two methods to get Sylveon in Pokémon Go. The first is to give it a specific name to ensure it evolves into Sylveon, although this only works once. Any other evolution of Sylveon will require a specific method which is certainly the most involving of them to date.
We'll start with the easiest way to get your first Sylveon, which will be through the naming method. Choose your best Eevee you want to use for Sylveon, whether it's intravenously, if it's shiny, or even if it has a flower crown. Go to that specific Eevee and go edit its name and change it to Kira. Save the name here and completely close the game and reopen it. This will ensure that the name has been updated on the backend and all. When you return to this Eevee, you should see a mystery icon that looks like Sylveon evolve, so go ahead and evolve. Just make sure it's after 10 a.m. local time on May 25, because the icon has been showing up for a while for people, but instead evolves into another random Eeveelution.
The first Sylveon is easy to get, but follow-ups are going to take you a lot longer. To start, you need to make the Eevee you want to evolve into Sylveon your buddy. From there, you now need to earn 70 Buddy Hearts with that specific Eevee. At this point, the evolve icon should change from a simple question mark to Sylveon, so go ahead and evolve it. The same rules apply here to make sure it's 10 am local time, but we don't know if the icon will even appear with this method otherwise. We don't know if this is retroactive to previous Eevees you've earned Buddy Hearts with, so make sure you see the Sylveon icon before trying to evolve if you're trying to use an existing icon.
This concludes our guide on how to get Sylveon in Pokémon Go. It's been one of the most anticipated additions to the game for some time now, so it's great to finally be able to get the Fairy Type Eeveelution and the add to our Pokédex.
