Popular Sonic the Hedgehog character spotted on set for movie sequel

Unfortunately it's not Coldsteel

Am I not cute? Trying to avoid spoilers for fans by not naming the character in the title, despite the fact that he's literally trending on social media, and will likely even end up on posters and new trailers. Look, I'm doing my best to watch over you, at the expense of the mighty SEO overlords.

"A for effort" and all that...

Sigh. Anyway, as filming continues on Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 2, sneaky photos from the set have confirmed that the barrel-chested echnida, Knuckles, will be part of the cinematic sequel. In frankly disturbing footage, props for Knuckles, Sonic and Tails were snapped standing among rubble on a city street, standing stiff and tall with staring smiles and dead eyes.

The photos were taken by Twitter user @Pursuit23 before being purchased and published by showbiz website Just Jared. Other snaps — which you can check out on this latest site — include images of Actual Human stars James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, who will aid the anthropomorphic heroes in their battle with the villainous Dr. Robotnik (a returning Jim Carrey).

The photos represent the first confirmation that the red boy will appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, although rumors of his inclusion have been circulating for some time. Knuckles made his first appearance in the Sonic series as a boss in 1994's classic Sega Genesis Sonic 3, before becoming playable later that same year in the spin-off title Sonic & Knuckles. Knuckles has since become a popular franchise mainstay, appearing in numerous games, cartoons, comics, and now - it seems - movies.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
