The New War is finally upon us. It's been three years in the making and is the biggest and most ambitious cinematic quest to date in Warframe. In recent years for Warframe, players have had to make some pretty crucial decisions in every quest. Each choice offers us a unique dialogue along the way and affects our alignment on some sort of purity scale. In the New War, we face a crossroads of two-pronged decisions. Here we will discuss whether you should go for the Drifter or the Operator in The New War quest in Warframe.
Should you choose the Drifter or the Operator in The New War?
Heavy spoiler warning! The following text will discuss crucial points in the quest storyline. If you get to that point in the quest and need guidance, feel free to watch it. The article will only deal with the questions so far.
After escaping Natah's attacks, she will put you in her grip which will send your Drifter back to a previous vision following the incident aboard the Zariman Ten Zero. Your Operator in this vision will interact with The Man in the Wall, restoring the Drifter's power.
Some cutscenes between Erra and Ballas will continue, eventually returning control to you as your Operator. You'll start venturing into an abandoned vision of the Ten Zero, eventually reaching the point where you sit down and have a meal with your Drifter.
After a confused discussion with a paradox of yourself (slight foreshadowing of the Duviri paradox), you will be asked the question: who will be the one to kill Ballas and decide Natah's fate?
Of course, choosing the Drifter or the Operator can be quite a daunting task. Do you want to finish what you started as an Operator, or let the Drifter, a shell of your future self, stuck in a paradox, finish the task you (they) started after the Ballas takeover?
After making your choice, this is who you will complete the rest of the quest with. However, to reassure you on some things, this only makes the changes permanent here. Once the quest is complete, you can switch back to your old Operator.
The only thing to note is that since the quest is not replayable at the moment, you will only see one result. Choose what you think is the most appropriate choice. In Warframe, quest choices like the Drifter or Operator will not permanently impact story progress, which is still true in The New War.
Warframe is free on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series S/X, Nintendo Switch and PC.
