Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - EA Play issue - Unable to download EA Desktop patch

EA Play is coming to Xbox Game Pass is a big deal. It adds a huge library of titles to Game Pass, but on Game Pass Ultimate on PC, many kinds of issues crop up. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to properly connect Game Pass Ultimate and EA Play to ensure you can download the EA Play games included in your subscription.

Although it should work right away, there is a specific setting you might have on your PC that does not allow you to download and play EA Play Games on Game Pass Ultimate on PC. If you're on this page, you probably know the basics. You need to have a few things set up correctly for things to work.

You must first have your Game Pass Ultimate account on PC. This is accessible through the Xbox app on Windows 10.

Second, you need to download the EA desktop app on PC. This is supposed to be downloaded via a pop-up window (it doesn't currently work).

Finally, you must have these two accounts connected and linked.

What you will need

  • Xbox app open on PC
  • Open EA desktop application on PC
  • Linked accounts between the two

The problem many people have is that even though the games are available to download from the Xbox app, the links from the app to EA Desktop don't work. When trying to install an EA game, a pop-up prompts you to download EA desktop, then when you click on it, another error message appears.

If you click on the link under the one that says "View in EA Desktop" you will get the same error message.

If this is the issue you are facing, here is what you should do as it is a User Account Control issue. The problem is probably that UAC is disabled. For this to work properly, you must have it enabled.

How to Enable UAC in Windows 10

  1. Type UAC in the search box
  2. Select Change User Account Control settings
  3. Move the slider from off to one of the options above

Once UAC is enabled, restart the EA desktop app and the Xbox app. You should then be able to simply click on the install links on the Xbox app and it will open EA Desktop and start downloading your titles.

If you're not sure if your accounts are linked

If you're not sure which email address you have associated with your EA account and which is linked to your Xbox Game Pass account, you're going to need to do some research. What I had to do was contact EA directly. But you might be able to figure out which account is connected by going to all of the EA accounts you have and then looking at your about me section. If you're linked to specific Xbox Live accounts, it will show those in that profile. To check this, simply head to ea.com and then log in by selecting the profile icon in the top right corner of the page.
